Uganda’s Halima Nakaayi has won a silver medal in the women’s 800m final at the 13th African Games 2023 in Accra, Ghana.
Nakaayi finished behind Ethopia’s Tsige Geniecu Duguma on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Duguma won gold with a time of 1:57:73; Nakaayi came in second, winning a silver medal with a time of 1:58:59; and Kenya’s Vivian Kiprotich Chebet finished third, winning a bronze medal.
Susan Aneno, the other Ugandan in the 800m, finished sixth with a time of 2.04.79.
In 2019, Nakaayi scooped a bronze medal in the 800m category at the African Games.
Uganda has nine medals so far: two golds (badminton and cycling), four silvers (weightlifting and 800m), and three bronzes (swimming and weightlifting).
