Uganda will join the rest of Africa in celebrating Africa Public Service Day, an occasion aimed at recognizing the vital role public servants and public sector organizations play in national development.

The day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2002, is officially marked globally on June 23 each year. However, Uganda will hold its celebration on July 7, 2025, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, according to the Chief Political Commissar of the Uganda Police Force, AIGP Bamunoba Ubaldo.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday, June 23, 2025, AIGP Bamunoba said the event offers a platform for public servants to account to the public for their work, service delivery, and future improvement.

“On this day, public service employees account to the public they serve what they do, how they deliver services, and how best they should improve,” he said.

He commended the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service, Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwire, for her unwavering support and strategic leadership that continues to guide public servants in fulfilling their duties.

“Her commitment to supporting the public service is both admirable and remarkable,” Bamunoba added.

A series of activities have been lined up in the lead-up to the main celebration. AIGP Bamunoba urged the public to actively participate and appreciate the value of public service to national progress.

Across the country, including the Kampala Metropolitan policing area, community-driven programs will take place.

Among the planned events are a health camp and blood donation drive involving participation of all police officers. Medical screenings and tests for HIV, blood pressure, diabetes, and other ailments will be conducted at the Police Headquarters on scheduled dates.

The Uganda Police Force will also engage in corporate social responsibility activities, including a visit to Naguru Remand Home to interact with juveniles and offer support.

The Force will also reach out to Bakateyamba Home in Nalukolongo to provide aid and moral support, as well as to Sanyu Babies’ Home in Namirembe.

The activities will climax on July 1, 2025, with a national blood donation drive and an inter-agency sports gala, where various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will compete in the spirit of unity and service.

The Uganda Police Force will further showcase its work through exhibitions and public sensitisation sessions. All directorates and departments will present what they do, explain service delivery mechanisms, and respond to public concerns.

‘’All our  directorates and departments will showcase what we do as a mechanism of accountability and the police will carry out public sensitisation as well in addressing public complaints and concerns’’ AIGP Bamunoba explained.

AIGP Bamunoba concluded with a message of reassured Ugandans that the police will continue to serve them.

“Our message to the public is that we shall continue to serve you. Our resolve remains firm to protect the country and its citizenry.” he said.

The Africa Public Service Day serves as a reminder of the dedication required from public servants and the essential role they play in delivering effective, people-centred governance.
