Africa Public Service Day to be Celebrated at Kololo Independence Grounds

This year, the Africa Public Service Day will be celebrated on June 23, 2023, at Kololo Independence Grounds and the President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be Chief Guest.

According to Godfrey Kaima, the Undersecretary at the Ministry of Public Service, the event celebrations will be organized by the Ministry of Public Service and all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDA’s).

Kaima said that this year’s theme will be “The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

He added that, the key presentation will be from Ministry of Trade Industries and Cooperatives with main the emphasis being the need for MDA’s to embrace and promote (AfCFTA).

Kaima confirmed that there is a line of activities lined up for the event and they are all free to members from the different MDA’s.

“There will be a walk from the Ministry of Public service to Kololo Celebration Grounds, also different MDA’s will hold exhibitions of the services they offer to the public and MDA’s such as Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), UPDF, UPF, Uganda Prisons Services, Ministry of Agriculture, and others will all be present,” Kaima said.

“A soccer tournament has also been organized from the 19th to the 22nd of June at Makerere sports grounds, where different MDA’s will participate and the winner will be awarded a trophy,” Kaima added.

The Ministry of health will provide first aid for the soccer tournament and for members participating in the walk. There will also be a health camp at Kololo Grounds, free for the public, according to Kaima.

Kaima noted that, Africa Public Service Day is celebrated in recognition of Civil Public Servants for their immense contribution in the development of their respective countries.

“This day is also to celebrate the contribution of the public service in spearheading national and continental development, in line with the fulfillment of the African union’s agenda 2063,” he said.

He added that during this day, activities are designed to showcase innovations, reward excellence, raise the image of Public Service, enhance trust and integrity in government, and also importantly share best practices.

“Public Service is a noble cause, it provides a unique opportunity to make positive contributions to the institutions and the communities we serve, and inspire young people to follow suit by pursuing careers in the public sector,” said Kaima.

“As we mark this important day, let us celebrate not only the work of public servants worldwide, but their commitment to working in partnership to build a better future for all people.” Kaima said.
