Action Aid Uganda has called upon the youth leaders to spearhead the fight against corruption through servant leadership.
The call follows the nomination and swearing-in of youth leaders on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the 7th National Youth Parliament at Royal Suites, Bugolobi.
While delivering his speech, the Action Aid Representative, David Nyaribi, said that, as a global federation, Action Aid is committed to the fight for social justice and against poverty.
According to Nyaribi, leadership and corruption have proved a challenge to the country; therefore, the youth should use their platform to advocate for social justice.
”We are calling for servant leadership that fronts obligation ahead of privilege and puts an end to corruption both in public offices and homes,’’ Nyaribi said.
He added that there was a need for integrity and a balance in leadership by giving both women and men equal opportunities in politics.
‘’As we advocate for the empowerment of women, we must not forget the boy child because, at the end of the day, an empowered man needs an empowered woman,’’ he added.
Nyaribi urged the youth to take action on climate change before applauding the newly elected leaders for their posts.
‘’Climate change is real; clearly, the planet is in danger, and whereas it seems like it is farfetched, it will be like COVID, which starts in Wuhan and ends up in Apac. We have been in emergency landing as a country and continent, but I am happy that we are beginning to have these conversations and action is being taken,’’Nyaribi concluded.
The voting exercise saw the swearing in of Namugobe Vicky and Ngabo Timothy as the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker for Action Aid, respectively.
