Soroti District Engineer Charged for Abuse of Office

Denis Ocung, the acting District Engineer for Soroti District has been charged with abuse of office and conspiracy to defraud by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Soroti Police.

According to the corruption unit, the charges are to do with the execution of the UGX394M Project, which calls for the development of a piped water supply system in Adamasiko, Ojor parish, Kalie Sub County, and Soroti District.

“He connived with the contractor M/S Time Traders Ltd and paid them UGX24M with no work done. He further abused his office by making the above payment without consulting the Project Management Committee,” State House Anti-Corruption Unit tweeted.

Ocung is jointly charged with Ismail Odeke, the Director M/S Time Traders Ltd who is still at large.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, seven senior officials from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) were arrested and charged by the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo over abuse of office and embezzlement of funds which led to the loss of over Shs 4billion taxpayers’ money. The officers misappropriated funds intended for Karamoja peace-building activities.
