A dog belonging to Dr. Andrew Obuku, the former President of the Uganda Doctors Association, has violently attacked and bit to death his son, identified as Raphael, and injured a housemaid at Canaan Estate, Mawugulu cell in Katabi town council, Wakiso district.

According to the police of Kisubi and Entebbe stations, Sharon Nuwarinda, who was washing clothes on March 18, 2024, had placed the baby on the verandah of the house for close monitoring.

Preliminary investigations by the police reveal that the incident took place when the baby boy’s parents left him in Nuwarinda’s care as their new housemaid, and after the dog killed the child, it went back to its kennel.

“The incident occurred on March 18, 2024, at around 10:00 a.m. when the boy’s parents had left him in the custody of the newly recruited housemaid, one Nuwarinda Sharon; the house-tamed dog sneaked out of its kennel, violently targeted the baby, and bit him to death. She tried to intervene to rescue the child, but she was overpowered by the dog, which bit her thigh in the process,” the police noted.

The police also noted that Nuwarinda screamed and made a continuous alarm, but unfortunately the neighbours arrived too late since the gate is always locked; however, they rushed the maid to Kisubi Hospital.

The police further established that the dog has been hostile before and once tried to attack people in the neighbourhood.

Police visited and examined the scene of the crime and took samples of the deceased’s remains to Mulago National Refurral Hospital for a postmortem, while the maid is currently under police custody. The police, however, have advised dog owners to take precautions, treat dogs on time, and fasten their dwellings in the event that the dog is noted to be a tough one.
