The 43rd Tarehe Sita anniversary, which is always celebrated every sixth day of February, will be observed in the Busoga sub-region on February 6, 2024. Prior to the celebrations, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) is providing free medical care to the residents of Iganga district in an effort to demonstrate the importance of Tarehe Sita for the community.

According to Brig Gen Dr. Moses Kiyengo, the UPDF Director of Medical Services, UPDF started the free health campaign in Iganga and Bugweri districts so that people could get free medical services as a way to start off the 43rd Tarehe Sita celebrations in the Greater Busoga region.

Dr. Kiyengo said that every district has a team that works for four days, adding that for the remaining four, the team will spend it in other health facilities so that individuals who were unable to receive treatment at Iganga General Hospital and Nakamala Health Centre III will be able to access free medical care.

Dr. Dauda Mugoya, the Medical Superintendent of Iganga General Hospital, commended the valuable contribution in addressing several challenges faced by the hospital. He added that this has helped them reduce the work overload in the hospital.

“We have been working with UPDF since January 27, 2024, and they are certainly doing fantastic work,’’ Mugoya said.

Among the UPDF medical team stationed at Iganga General Hospital are physicians, a general surgeon, gynaecologists, midwives, counsellors, nurses, and medical officers.

Dr. Magambire, the in-charge of Nakamala Health Centre III, said that the facility attends to over 100 patients every day.
