The Uganda People’s Defence Forces have resolved to accord the killer bodyguard, private Wilson Sabiiti, a full military honor during his funeral.

His body was handed over to his relatives on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2023, at the ancestral home in Mubali Village, Kijura Town Council, Kabarole District, after 21 days.

Col. Deo Akiiki, the UPDF deputy spokesperson, said Private Sabiiti will be buried with full military honor as prescribed in the military laws.

“He will be buried with all military honors as prescribed for a private up to the rank of colonel; the three-gun volley will be shot in respect of the late, and that will mark the end of this as we wait for the rest from the investigators,” said Col. Akiiki.

Asked why the Army has reversed from the previous decision, UPDF Spokesperson Brig.Gen. Felix Kulayigye said; “Flexibility” , the UPDF leadership has decided.

Sabiiti killed himself shortly after he gunned down his principal, former State Minister for Labour, Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola, on May 2, 2023. His burial is currently underway.

This is contrary to the previous statement issued by the UPDF Spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, that ruled out the army’s involvement in his funeral.
