The Uganda People’s Forces have embarked on the hunt for the suspected rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), who allegedly killed one person and injured another one in Kasese district on Friday.

Col. Deo Akiiki, the deputy UPDF spokesperson, said the incident occurred when a group of an estimated five armed ADF elements ambushed a trailer at 1:00 a.m. that was carrying onions from Kisoro to the Mpondwe Lhubiriha Border and burned it to ashes.

According to Col. Akiiki, the incident occurred at Katojo Junction along Bwera-Kinyamaseke-Kasese Road in Kasese District.

“The trailer had four occupants, and one person was shot dead; one was seriously injured and has been taken to Bwera Hospital; another occupant survived without injury; and one male adult has since not been seen,” said Col. Akiiki.

Col. Akiiki noted that the UPDF squads are tracking down the attackers.

A few days ago, UPDF soldiers repelled an attack by suspected ADF rebels who had attempted to cross into Uganda through the porous borders in Kasese district.

This is the latest attack by ADF rebels inside Uganda since the group attacked Lhubiriha Secondary School in Mpondwe, Kasese district, on June 16, 2023. Rebels killed some 42 people, including 38 students.

Recently, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced that the UPDF airstrikes on two targets of the ADF inside the Democratic Republic of the Congo had greatly inflicted disastrous results on the rebels.
