Security Arrests Leader of Criminal Gang Terrorizing Mubende

Police in Mubende district have in custody the leader of a suspected criminal group that has been terrorizing residents.

SP Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, has identified the suspect as Benjamin Tumusiime.

Kawala confirmed that Tumusiime was arrested on August 6, 2023, during an intelligence-led operation in Watuba town, Wakiso, conducted by the joint security team.

According to her, the suspect is said to have commanded the suspected group of 30 suspects behind the murder case in Kilwanyi village, Kilwanyi parish, Kiruma sub-county, and Mubende district.

“Tumusiime Benjamin was successfully apprehended on August 6, 2023, at around 10:00 a.m. by a joint task team consisting of CID and Crime intelligence in Watuba town, Wakiso. He is currently in custody at Mubende CPS,” said SP Kawala.

Kawala said that the incident took place on July 31, 2023, around 08:00 a.m. when Namutebi Milly Naava, her husband, Abudalah Kayezi, and their two sons, Ssekamate Muzafaru and Ibrahim Kaluma, were ambushed by a group of approximately 30 individuals, with Tumusiime Benjamin leading the group.

She further said that the attack occurred while the victims were leaving Tumusiime’s home.

“The unfortunate attack occurred while the victims were leaving Tumusiime Benjamin’s home, resulting in the tragic deaths of Namutebi Milly Naava and her husband, while their two sons sustained serious injuries but managed to escape,” she added.

Police have since apprehended a total of six suspects in connection with this murder case so far, with additional investigations ongoing.
