The Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Andrew Byakutanga has applauded President Yoweri Museveni for launching the construction of Bunyoro public university set to help in accessing affordable university education system .

Byakutanga made this revelation earlier today Wednesday March 19, 2025 while attending the ground breaking ceremony in Buhimba Town Council, Kikuube District which was done by President Yoweri Museveni while on Parish Development Model (PDM) assessment tour in Bunyoro sub region.

“For long time its only Bunyoro region that has been lagging behind in terms of easy access to university education hence with the launch of the construction of the university today, we are optimistic it will improve and reduce expenses of taking pupils in the neighboring areas for university education” Byakutanga said

The chairperson of the Bunyoro Parliamentary Caucus, Jacob Karubanga (NRM, Kibanda South County), extended his appreciation to Dr Henry Wamani after he offered 100 acres of land to the proposed University development.

Upon inspection of the land, it has been rated as the most suitable for the university by the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development.

President Museveni in 2001 emphasized the need of the establishment of a public university in the oil-rich Bunyoro region to promote the expansion of tertiary education in the region.

Also present was Hon. Byamukama  fred , the state minister for works and transport who promised to embark on the construction of roads leading to the university.
