The International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Thomas Bach, is set to visit Uganda from October 22-24, 2024, as part of his farewell tour across five African countries.
This visit marks one of his final duties as the IOC President as he steps down after a significant tenure in office.
On top of Uganda, Bach will also tour Senegal, Lesotho, South Africa, and Rwanda as he aims to reinforce the IOC’s partnerships on the African continent.
During his visit to Uganda, he is expected to visit the Game Connect Project, whose initiative is funded by the Olympic Refugee Foundation. This project is aimed at providing refugees and the displaced people with opportunities to engage in sports activities that foster both physical and social well-being.

The Game Connect Project aligns with the IOC’s broader mission to promote social inclusion through sports and create developmental opportunities for marginalized people.
He is also set to meet with athletes, sports leaders, Olympians, and senior governmental officials.
Bach’s visit underscores the growing influence of sports in Uganda and its impact on local communities. Additionally, it is expected to further cement Uganda’s role in the Olympic Movement, thus showcasing the power of sports as a tool for community development and international collaboration.
