The Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development has launched the Ugandan National Land Information System (UgNLIS) public portal to aid in the access of information on land.
The launch happened on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the Wakiso Busiro Ministry Zonal Offices (MZO), marking a pivotal advancement in the modernization of land administration in Uganda.
The Portal will enable users to perform land searches online, confirm property information, and start mortgage transactions all from the comfort of their homes.
At the launch event, Dorcas Okalany, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, highlighted the significance of the occasion and the collaborative efforts that made it possible.
‘’It’s a great honour to preside over the event and acknowledge the presence of the Honourable Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, whose leadership had been pivotal in driving the Ministry’s vision of efficiency and transparency, and extend appreciation to the political leaders for their ongoing support in making land services more accessible to all Ugandans,’’ she stated.
Okalany emphasized the importance of collaboration and recognized key partners and individuals who have contributed to the Ministry’s modernization journey.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to the World Bank for being steadfast partners in our modernization efforts. I also commend the residents of Wakiso District for their engagement and trust in our services, which have been vital to our progress. Furthermore, I want to acknowledge the foundational work of former Minister Hon. Daudi Migereko and former Permanent Secretary David Gabindadde-Musoke in modernizing and digitizing the Lands Registry,” she added.
Okalany said the ministry remains committed to continuously improving land services for all Ugandans.
UgNLIS now helps safeguard Uganda’s green areas and infrastructure routes with the introduction of Rapid Physical Plans. These plans prevent encroachment into restricted zones and protect vital resources like wetlands and electricity corridors.
