The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party based in Najjanankumbi has warned the leaders of the Katonga faction against dragging them into chicken fights concerning challenges with the new party registration process.

According to John Kikonyogo, the FDC party spokesperson, the leaders at Katonga are trying to solicit public sympathy by accusing institutions such as the Electoral Commission (EC) and the FDC party of hindering their dream of registering the new party.

He asked the Katonga leaders to act genuinely to navigate challenges with the registration of their new party rather than dragging Najjanankumi leaders into fights that they don’t have time for.

“Katonga leaders can succeed in registering their party if they act genuinely. I think they want to create some wars such that they appear as if they are relevant by quarreling with the EC, FDC, and President Museveni to seek public sympathy,” Kikonyogo said.

Kikonyogo made the remarks during an interview with our reporter on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Entebbe Road.

He added that FDC has no interest in halting Katonga’s new party registration process because their agenda is to remove President Museveni from power, stating that it is bigger than stopping the registration of a political party of a hundred people.

“Do you think we are stupid to be interested in stopping them from registering their party? They should go somewhere and settle and do their work instead of disturbing the people of the FDC party,” Kikonyogo said.

Jack Sabiiti, the FDC National Chairman, also said that the leaders at Najjanankumbi have no power to stop the registration of any political party in Uganda, noting that Katonga leaders are free to confirm whether FDC has written to EC concerning the stoppage of their party registration process.

“By the way, our hands are open to receiving those colleagues from Katonga because our agenda is bigger than mere fights,” Sabiiti said.

The Katonga group has since accused their counterparts at Najjanankumbi and the EC of yielding to the invisible hand to delay the party registration process.
