James Kayemba, a 34-year-old man, has died in an accident due to drunk driving in Butula village along the Kyotera-Rakai road.

Kayemba, a resident of Byakabanda village in Rakai district, had an accident on August 6, 2024, while dodging a pothole as he was riding his motorcycle registration number, UDS 394H.

During an interview with journalists on August 6, 2024, the Greater Masaka police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, revealed that the deceased went to a bar in Kyotera town in Kasambya village and started drinking alcohol from 8:00 p.m. until the wee hours of the morning.

According to Kasirye, his friends tried to stop him from over drinking since he was riding a motorcycle, but he refused to listen to their warnings.

Kasirye added that he left the bar in Kyotera and headed to Rakai; however, when he reached Butula village, he attempted to dodge a pothole, fell into a trench, hit his head, and the motorcycle subsequently landed on top of him, which led to his death.

’’Kayemba was found by the locals in the morning as they were going to work; however, it is believed that the hit he got on the head when he fell into the trench is what caused his death,’’ said Kasirye.

He added that Kayemba’s body was taken to the mortuary of Rakai General Hospital for postmortem examinations; however, investigations are going on to ascertain what really caused his death.

Kasirye urged the public to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol, emphasizing that such behavior poses a significant risk not only to the driver but also to others on the road.
