Against all odds, a 70-year-old Ugandan woman has exceeded expectations of nature and given birth to twins, with the help of In Vitro fertilization (IVF), giving enormous joy to her family and community.

Namukwaya Safinah, of Nunda village in Kulungu district, gave birth to twins weighing 1.7 kg each through c-section at Women Hospital and International Fertility Centre in Bukoto.

According to Dr. Edward Ssali, a gynecologist at Women Hospital and International Fertility Centre in Bukoto, IVF is a medical procedure that helps couples with fertility problems conceive children.

Ssali, who also took care of Namukwaya during her delivery, expressed his delight at the successful birth.

“Both the mother and babies are in good condition, given the circumstances surrounding the extraordinary case,” Ssali said.

“Namukwaya’s story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the advancement of medical technology. It’s a heartwarming reminder that even at an advanced age, the hope of parenthood can still blossom into reality,” he added.

Ssali said the arrival of the twins is a beacon of hope for couples struggling with fertility issues, demonstrating that the desire to have children knows no age limits.

Namukwaya’s journey to motherhood has not been an easy one. For two decades, she longed for a child, but her dreams seemed unfulfilled.
