The security Apparatus in Kyegegwa have arrested six suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels, planning to launch attacks on schools in the District.

According to locals, some of the rebels were spotted armed and allegedly attacked a homestead looking for food but they found none.

Sources who revealed on condition of anonymity said that, five rebels were arrested on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, from Kyatega while one other who happened to be armed with a pistol was arrested on Tuesday night during night prayers at a church in Kakabara, which has led to the halt of night prayers in Kyegegwa.

“Five of the rebels were arrested on Tuesday during day time from Kyatega while another one was arrested from a Pentecostal church in Kakabara where he had gone. He was taken to Kakabara Police and later transferred to Kyegegwa Police station,” the sources noted.

Preliminary information indicates that both the UPDF and Police have been deployed to ensure that locals are safe, and patrols being carried out to ensure peace in the area.

It is alleged that on Tuesday morning at around 5:00am, a primary school child (name withheld), on his way to school was stopped by strange men that asked him for directions to King Solomon College Kyatega and Humura S.S, which he didn’t know and was left to go his way.

“A group of unidentified men met the primary school child who was heading to school at around 5am and asked him whether he knew King Solomon School and Humura S.S. However, the pupil told them he didn’t know them and they told him to run so fast to where he was heading. On his arrival to school the pupil informed the school authorities who then informed police,” the locals confirmed to our reporter.

“They later proceeded to Kakabara Primary School and then resorted to torturing a teacher into giving them information about King Solomon College and Humura S.S or else attack his school. The teacher gave them the directions,” locals added.

On Monday night, June 26, 2023, suspected rebels attacked unidentified school in Kifuka village, Bufunjo Sub County along Kakabara-Katooke road, and warned a one Fr. Benedicto of how they would burn the school down.

“The rebels also attacked a school in Kifuka but both the askaris and students ran away and they then warned Fr. Benedicto of the Catholic Church near the school that they were going to burn the school down before they could go to Kakabara,” residents noted.

Locals also said that two bags of Machetes were discovered in Kisamura, not more than a kilometer from Kyegegwa District.

However, Nexus media tried to speak to different security personnel to confirm the development, all in vain.

It is two weeks now since ADF rebels attacked Lhubiriha Secondary School in Mpondwe, Kasese District and killed and burnt to ashes 43 students and five locals while abducting six students and looting food from the school store.
