Three people have been killed and one left injured in an accident that occurred on the Masaka-Kampala highway.
In a statement dated April 18, 2024, SP Kananura Michael, the Community Liaison Officer and Public Relations Officer of the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, said that the incident took place on April 17, at around midnight.
He said that the accident happened at Kamengo-Kasuule Ayanguwa swamp along the Masaka-Kampala highway.
According to Kananura, the accident involved two motor vehicles: UAL 605U, a Mitsubishi Fuso, and a Subaru Forester UBH 247L.
“Motor Vehicle UAL 695U Mitsubishi Fuso was coming from Kampala headed to Masaka. While at Kasuule Ayanguwa Swamp in Kamengo along the Masaka-Kampala highway, it collided with the motor vehicle UBH 247L Subaru Forester, which was coming from Masaka to Kampala,” Kananura said.
“Three occupants of the Subaru Forester, including the driver, died instantly, while one other passenger in the same car got critically injured. The victim was rushed to Double Cure in Mpigi for medical attention, and the bodies of the deceased were taken to Gombe Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem,” he added.
The Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola, revealed during the launch of the Annual Crime Report 2023 that there had been a total of 23,608 car accidents in 2023, of which 12,487 were serious, 4179 were fatal, and 6942 were minor.
