The National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have today submitted signatures for their respective presidential candidates.

Speaking at the Electoral Commission (EC) offices on 7th Street in Industrial Area, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong said the party had submitted over 2 million signatures in support of President Yoweri Museveni.

“Today we have submitted over 2 million signatures from registered NRM voters across the country as we await the nomination of our party chairman and President General Kaguta Museveni,” Todwong stated.

Meanwhile, FDC Deputy President for the Western Region, Robert Centenary, said the party submitted signatures for their presidential candidate, Nandala Mafabi.

“We have submitted signatures for the official flagbearer of the FDC, Nandala Mafabi. Today, we brought over 1 million signatures, and anyone who disqualifies them does so at their own risk,” Centenary warned.

He urged the government to ensure that National ID numbers (NINs) are aligned across all government systems.

“We have hard-core supporters whose NINs from the original National ID issued by NIRA cannot be read by the EC system. That is why we brought more than enough signatures to avert any uncertainties. We also call on the responsible ministries to align their systems so they can coordinate proper information,” Centenary added.
