The witch doctor who murdered the 9-year-old girl has been identified as Abdul Sempa, a resident of Nabwato village in Lwabenge sub-county in Kalungu district, while the deceased was identified as Maria Nabaale, a daughter of Birimuye Mugerwa Bwesa.Bwesa.According

According to the locals, the victim disappeared on May 8, 2024, as she was heading to the garden to dig; however, once they realized she was missing, they commenced search in the nearby bushes.
The locals also revealed that, at the time of Nabaale’s disappearance, she was staying with her aunt because her parents had separated from each other.

While being interviewed by journalists on May 23, 2024, one of the locals identified as Sebwato said that when victim went missing, the residents suspected Sempa as the first crime suspect. He added that the police arrested him and his colleague identified as Kayira, and that after two days, the deceased’s aunt was also arrested.

However, the locals noted that Sempa and Kayira were released on bail after the Local Council I Chairperson of Nabwato, identified as Nsubuga, stood up as sureties while the deceased’s aunt remained in prison in Kalungu.

Sebwato also revealed that the victim’s remains were discovered by a young boy who had gone to dig in the evening on May 20, 2024, which prompted police to re-arrest the Ssempa.

‘’Nabaale’s torso had started rotting, so due to the stench from it, the boy ran to his mom to inform her about his discovery, and his mom also informed police and some local leaders who came to the garden, and upon inspection, they discovered that it was Nabaale’s torso that was smelling,’’ Sebwato revealed.

‘’After getting this news, he hurriedly left Sekidde’s shrine and even left his coat behind, and this prompted me to call the police, who found him at a place called Ku Satu, and he was arrested,’’ he added.

The suspect was re-arrested and is currently at Bukakata Police Station as police thorough investigations are underway.
